The team is back on track...........

Met up with some old chums at the Keepers - Zulu Warriors. Noisy, micky-taking bunch. Small wooden light balls, small skittles, long alley. Needed binoculars to see the pins, and the good old concrete surface did not disappoint.... wides, odd bounces, swerves and fines all over the place.

Woody won toss - put 'em in...Bowled two ends at a time, mid 50's and a low 60,s start. So two hands of level 7's and we're there.... up steps new lead off man Jacko.
First ball 100mph left........ you guessed it ...... W   I   D   E ... went the crowd. Loads of laughter and re loaded. Less pace this time .... 97mph off right.... W  I  D  E  was the shout. Now a look of sheer panic descended Jacko's face, he could almost see Eric and Ernie's ghosts skipping towards him down the alley... with that song ringing in his ears. Bugger - this could cost a quid he thought - and without more ado bowled a peach to take 7. One ball wonder....rapturous applause from his team mates. It did not take long for us to realise that this wasn't going to be easy. Pistol eager to blow off his early season cobwebs smashed 'em for an 8 & 9 start. Woody and making his league debut this year Darkness set the Toppers on their way to what would only prove to be one of three winning ends for them. DK (Head of Wagging) set off with yours truly starting slowly.. 1st fine of the season slow. Deano and back in the fold Goody bringing up the rear was not enough to see us fall behind by just over half a dozen or so.
Last two to go, game finely poised, no clear leader, and then... they scrape 50, and the door is wide open. Glasses charged, Broadside and Otter Ale a plenty into the valley rolled the skittlers... A good end ... PICKLES wiping out his fine with a spare and the money beckoned.
Last hand - game in the bag.... with a lead of 14 and 53 scored, it only required the .COM to score 39. With that Jacko set off looking for the top scorers monetary prize.. Squelcher (Editor - JACKOS expression for a Flopper!!) first ball... oh damn (or words to that effect shouted the other team members who thought they had a chance of the prize fund!!) .... second ball ...... relief for all except Jacko... W  I  D  E ... third ball... 6 - total 15. New leader in the Bar - 62. The thirty nine was easily achieved by the Toppers alone who scored what must be close to a team record of 44 (Editor - no this is at least 48 from the previous week!)!!  So PICKLES needed 7 to tie or 8 for the dosh.... 8 was good enough.. and yes for the third time this season he managed to go home with a smile on his face!!.... The game finished much as it had started ... last man Goody bowled two wides to start with and scraped a four.

So we ended up with a win by 27, Waggers won 4.3.(with a Tie in one end) and loads made on the night in fines!!

Food was top dollar, chicken in red wine with onions and mushrooms served with rice and peas.

We collected more money in fines than we paid out in winnings.... must be a first.
